I'm a programmer
Hi! I'm Alan Tao, a high school student passionate about programming.
I first got into programming in 4th grade by playing around with Scratch. Since then, I've been engaged in competitive programming in C++ and Java, web devlopment with React and Astro, data science projects in R, and desktop applications in C#.
Outside of programming I'm a badminton player, a violist in the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, a fairly committed gamer, and a YouTuber posting everything from USACO solutions to ukulele covers.
Wherever I go, I try to bring passion, curiosity, and a real desire to keep learning.
I'm always tinkering with something new. Here are a few of my favorites.
Platinum division qualifier in the 2026 First Contest with a certified score of 1000/1000.
First place in the Massachusetts Computer Science Olympiad (MACSO) summer 2025. Won a gold cup + gold medal + $1700 Wolfram Alpha Subscription + whale plushie.
Third place in the Boston University High School Hackathon 2026. Developed a food pantry finding app with my teammate Raymund Thongthipaya.
Completely reconstructed and led the programming club at Newton North High School. Organized weekly meetings, coached us to 6th place nationally in the Intermediate divison of the American Computer Science League, created the club website and poster, and hosted a hackathon from scratch with more than $300 in prizes.
Gold medalist in the American Computer Science League Intermediate division for the 2024-2025 season with a score of 39/40
Received the President’s Volunteer Service Award at the Gold level for completing over 100 hours of volunteering at the Roslindale food pantry.
Violist in the highest level of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras after picking the instrument back up in high school.
Captain and coach of the school badminton club, and volunteer coach at Newton Parks & Recreation badminton camps.
I really enjoy meeting new people. Whether it's about a project, an idea, or just to say hi — feel free to reach out.
